Senior Vice President, Clinical Operations

The University of Ottawa Heart Institute is Canada’s largest and foremost heart health centre dedicated to understanding, treating and preventing heart disease. It provides unparalleled care to its patients, is the country’s main influencer when it comes to preventing heart disease, and is a world-renowned research centre that brings science from bench to bedside. The Heart Institute’s promise remains the very pillar on which it was built: Always putting patients first.

The Institute’s 1,400 physicians, nurses, researchers, technicians and allied health professionals handle over 245,000 patient visits every year while maintaining patient satisfaction scores that are among some of the highest in Ontario. Due to the retirement of the incumbent, UOHI is seeking its next Senior Vice President (SVP), Clinical Operations.

Reporting to the President & CEO, the SVP provides strategic leadership for all aspects of patient care and the development and delivery of the Heart Institute’s clinical services and operations.  The SVP works collaboratively with the other members of the UOHI Management Team and the Institute’s partners and stakeholders across Eastern Ontario to define and support the Institute’s growth and success as a key cardiac referral centre ensconced into a period of exciting expansion and change.

As a strong candidate you are an experienced and highly credible clinical leader, ideally with specialization in cardiac or critical care. UOHI will benefit from your deep clinical operations experience and track record of success in facilitating operational and cultural change while keeping patient care at the forefront. Adept at creating effective relationships with all audiences whether they are clinical, academic or community in orientation, you are an outstanding negotiator and influencer, highly respected for your integrity, honesty, openness, transparency, and bent to collaboration. You combine a strong business and financial acumen with systems level thinking and a desire to challenge the status quo both locally and regionally. To do so will require a high degree of executive maturity, professionalism, resiliency and conviction. Dynamic, thoughtful, energetic, visible, and engaging are all other adjectives that peers would use to describe you. You have a natural flair for, and interest in, health human resources, labour relations, talent management and succession planning. You are an inclusive team leader who enjoys coaching and mentoring. Authentic, engaging and leading by example, you will be sensitive to the stewardship of UOHI’s academic mission while playing a key role in advancing the dedicated and hardworking patient first culture that UOHI espouses. Bilingualism in English and French is an asset. A graduate level of education in a relevant field (business or health administration, nursing, etc.) is preferred.

If you are interested in joining one of Canada’s most distinguished heart health centres, please send your cover letter and CV in confidence to Andrew Dumont and Marie-Helene Gaudreault at adumont@boyden.com and mgaudreault@boyden.com.

We thank all applicants for their interest, however only those under consideration for the role will be contacted.
